Interested in running a workshop?

Workshop dates: Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th May 2027

Here is the information to consider if you wish to apply to run a workshop.

Currently we are inviting applications from International and UK tutors to run workshops on the 2 days before the Kensington Dollshouse Festival in May 2027. The show is running on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd May 2027.

We require a wide range of workshops, of differing lengths and skill level so, we have an Application process to ensure that this will be achieved.

Timetable and Breaks

19th May 2027: we have access to the venue from 10.00, to then perform venue/workshop set up.

Attendee arrival from 10.30, so workshops to commence from 11.00.

Workshops can also run in the evening on 19th May.

20th May 2027: Access to the venue from 8.30, so workshops to commence at 9.00 until 16.30/17.00, with clear up by 17.30.

Breaks: Workshop tutors would built breaks into the longer workshop timetable as preferred/required. Local shops can be visited during breaks to obtain refreshments.

Location: Essex Church. It is 5 minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate Underground station (Central and Circle lines).

As a host, we would provide coffee, tea and water refreshments in the kitchen facility. The fridge use would be restricted to any medical needs (storing of medication) and any workshop making materials needs

Duration of workshop

Main options

Half day, 1 day, 2 days, or a shorter workshop, Evening (Wednesday) only.

Wednesday 19/05/27

Half day: 11.00 - 14.30 or 15.00 - 18.30 (3.5 hours workshop/half day, no breaks included)

Full day: 11.00 - 19.00 (7 hours/full day plus 1 hr of breaks amongst the workshop time)

Wednesday Evening: 19.00-21.30 (2.5 hours, no breaks included).

Other Wednesday options

An afternoon half day workshop could be extended into the evening, running from 15.00 - 21.30 (5.5 hrs plus 1 hour of breaks amongst the workshop time, ie 6.5 hrs total time).

A full day workshop could also extend further into the evening. 11.00 - 21.30 (9 hours plus 1.5 hours of breaks amongst the workshop time,ie 10.5 hrs total time).

Thursday 20/05/2027

Half day: 9.00 - 12.30 or 13.00 - 16.30 (3.5 hours workshop/half day)

Full day: 9.00 - 17.00 (7 hrs full day plus 1 hr of breaks amongst the workshop time,ie 8 hrs total time)

Applications open on Monday September 21st 2026.

Application forms will be considered in the order in which they are received.

The deadline for applications will be at the end of Sunday November 8th 2026 for the workshops on 19 and 20th May 2027. (Workshop slots may all be allocated prior to the deadline date, then a waiting list will operate, if there are any cancellations).

We will try to assign the workshop to a requested time slot/day, but this cannot be guaranteed, so alternative slots should be indicated if they are possible for you.

Successful Applications will receive an email from Alison Biggs and the payment of the deposit will be arranged.

If you have indicated availability for more than 1 slot on the same day or on either/both days,, your slot will be finalised in due course (to work around other workshop tutors who may be more restricted in the slot they can deliver).

Please note that you cannot advertise your workshop until the complete list of all workshop is published on this website.

Successful workshops Tutors who have secured a stand at the Christmas Kensington Dollshouse Festival on 28 and 29th November 2026 can then advertise their workshop on their stand.

We also plan to run courses in December 2027, before the Kensington Dollshouse Festival, which is on 4-5 December 2027.

If there is the interest from workshop tutors, we may also consider running courses on other dates of the year.

Indicate one item you plan to make during a workshop (and attendees can complete during the workshop for greatest satisfaction) – per Application form, below.
You can also apply to run more than 1 workshop, or extend a workshop (on Wednesday), if they are of shorter duration (e.g. half day, 1 day or evening workshops).
Also what the item scale is (eg 1:12, 1:24,1:48, 1:144).
Send photographs of the item with the application form. The photos can then be used freely by the organiser on this website/ social media (for promotion purposes) only if the application to run the workshop is successful.
Workshop cost: indicate the workshop cost per attendee, including the workshop materials and tools costs.Venue and workshop organisation costs will then be calculated and added to each attendee workshop cost.
Workshop numbers: the minimum attendees per workshop will be 5, and maximum number of attendees 10/11 (two seperate tables plus tutor seat). Indicate if you want a maximum of 5 in the workshop (one table plus tutor seat). Due to the sizes of the tables available, this may determine the maximum numbers per workshop as workshop tables are allocated.
Workshop Tutor non-attendance: whether due to illness or another reason meaning that you cannot attend to run the workshop, (refer to the workshop T&C deposit details) consider whether you can post the workshop materials kit to each attendee and run it as a virtual workshop on another date (to be arranged directly by the tutor with those who booked on the workshop).
Booked Attendee non-attendance: indicate if this is an option, direct from you after the workshop (kit posted, if an instructions video/session).
Electricity/Power Access: Electric/socket UK 3 pin access: mains operated items will be problematic due to a low number of sockets around the edge of the rooms, but some mains socket extension leads could be brought by tutors (if PAT tested/new with receipt) to plug in around the edge of the room and achieve extra power sockets.
Workshop tutors need to consider if they will need power access for workshop equipment in use, during the workshop.
Lighting: The rooms have good lighting and windows, but we will ask attendees to bring a rechargeable/battery powered light with magnifier, as suitable for some/workshops, such as this model: Robert Dyas PURElite Multi-Use Magnifying Lamp Rechargeable LED.
Mains socket extension leads will be made available for attendees to recharge lights periodically (They will each need to bring USB/other port cable/devices) but not able to have it plugged into the mains during use, due to the reasons above.
Accepted Applications Fees: Upon your application being accepted and the workshop being scheduled, you agree to pay a Booking Administration Fee of £50. 00 per workshop (non-refundable). Also a Deposit Fee depending on the length of your workshop:
- £110.00 per half day/evening workshop length (2.5-3.5 hours)
- £175.00 per 1 day length workshop (7 hours)
- £325.00 per 2 day workshop (14 hours)

The Deposit Fee would be refunded after delivery of the workshop, (unless a cleaning up fee of the workshop delivery/tables area is needed, when £30.00 would be retained).
